Dress Code
The Renaissance Faire is a family-friendly celebration of history, fantasy, and community. Costumes and period attire are warmly encouraged for everyone — attendees, vendors, performers, and volunteers alike. Whether you arrive as a noble, a knight, a woodland elf, or simply your everyday self, all are welcome. This policy exists so that everyone can enjoy the festivities safely and comfortably.
Applies to Everyone
These guidelines apply to all attendees, vendors, performers, and volunteers on Faire grounds.
Family-Friendly Attire
The Faire is a public event welcoming guests of all ages, so all attire must keep that in mind.
- Clothing and costumes must provide appropriate coverage. Bare buttocks, genitals, and (for anyone who would be expected to in public) chests must be covered at all times, whether by fabric or secure costume pieces.
- Costumes such as bodices, corsets, and period gowns are welcome, but must be worn so that they provide reliable coverage throughout the day — including while moving, bending, and dancing.
- No clothing bearing profanity, hate symbols, sexually explicit imagery, or messaging that a reasonable guest would find offensive in a family setting.
- Costume weapons and armor are addressed under Safety below.
Guild staff and volunteers may, at their discretion, ask a guest to adjust or cover attire that does not meet these standards. We aim to handle any such conversation privately and respectfully.
Safety Requirements
Costume Weapons & Props
- All bladed weapons (swords, daggers, axes, etc.) must be peace-tied or sheathed and are to remain so at all times. They are costume accessories, not to be drawn or brandished.
- No functional, sharpened, or live-edged weapons. This includes real firearms, functional crossbows or bows with live arrows, and any genuinely sharp blade.
- Bows may be carried as costume pieces only, unstrung and without nocked arrows.
- Prop weapons must be made of foam, wood, latex, or blunted metal and used responsibly — no swinging, sparring, or contact with others outside of sanctioned activities or staffed demonstrations.
The Guild reserves the right to inspect any weapon or prop and to require that it be peace-tied, returned to a vehicle, or removed from the grounds.
General Safety
- Costumes should not create tripping or fire hazards. Be mindful of trailing fabric, capes, and long trains near crowds, food stalls, and open flame.
- Large wings, backpacks, and oversized props should be manageable in crowds and must not obstruct walkways or exits.
- Masks and helmets that fully obscure the face may be asked to be briefly lifted for identification at entry or in security matters.
Vendors, Performers & Volunteers
- We encourage period or fantasy attire that suits your booth, act, or role and adds to the Faire's atmosphere.
- All of the above family-friendly and safety standards apply.
- Volunteers on duty should remain identifiable per any badge, sash, or marker provided by the Guild.
Enforcement
We want every guest to have a wonderful experience. Enforcement will always begin with a friendly, private request to adjust attire or secure a prop. Guests who decline to comply with safety or family-friendly requirements may be asked to leave the grounds without refund. These measures exist solely to keep the Faire safe and welcoming for all.
Questions
If you’re unsure whether a costume or prop meets these guidelines, please reach out to the Lore & Legends Guild before the event — we’re always happy to help you make the most of your Faire experience.
